Association of Periodontal Diseases with Genetic Polymorphisms
نویسندگان
چکیده
Periodontal diseases are multifactorial in nature. While microbial and other environmental factors are believed to initiate and modulate periodontal disease progression, there now exist strong supporting data that genetic polymorphis ms play a role in the predisposition to and progression of periodontal diseases. Variat ions in any number or combination of genes that control the development of the periodontal tissues or the competency of the cellular and humoral immune systems could affect an individual's risk fo r d isease. A corollary of this realization is that if the genetic basis of periodontal disease susceptibility can be understood, such information may have diagnostic and therapeutic value. This review aims to update the clin ician about various genetic polymorphis ms associated with periodontal diseases to aid in a better approach to the condition in the future.

Identification of Genetic Polymorphism Interactions in Sporadic Alzheimer’s Disease Using Logic Regression
Objectives: Genetic polymorphism interactions are among the important factors in affliction with complex diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. The important goal of genetic association studies is to identify a combination of polymorphisms and measure their importance in increasing the risk of occurrence of such diseases. In this study, feature selection approach of logic regression was used to ide...
متن کاملThe association of FokI and ApaI polymorphisms in vitamin D receptor gene with autoimmune thyroid diseases in the northwest of Iran
Background: Some genetic factors are involved in the etiology of Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves’ disease as autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs). Effects of vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms in AITDs development have already been investigated in some previous studies. However, no study has been done on the association between VDR FokI and ApaI polymorphisms and AITDs in an Iranian po...

Background: ATP2B1 and STK39 have been introduced as essential hypertension candidate genes. The association of these genes’ variations have not been studied in Iranian population yet. Here we aimed to investigate the association of ATP2B1 rs2681472 and STK39 rs35929607 polymorphisms with the risk of hypertension in an Iranian population. Methods: We inclu...
متن کاملThe frequency of CCR5 promoter polymorphisms and CCR5 32 mutation in Iranian populations
Evidence showed that chemokines serve as pro-migratory factors for immune cells. CCL3, CCL4 and CCL5, as the main CC chemokines subfamily members, activate immune cells through binding to CC chemokine receptor 5 or CCR5. Macrophages, NK cells and T lymphocytes express CCR5 and thus, affected CCR5 expression or functions could be associated with altered immune responses. Deletion of 32 base pai...
متن کاملCRP and IL-1B Gene Polymorphisms and CRP in Blood in Periodontal Disease
Recent studies have suggested an association between periodontal disease (PD) and the systemic polygenic diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD). These are thought to be associated because of interrelated environmental, epigenetic, and genetic risk factors. The involved candidate genes include the IL-1B gene, encoding the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β, and the CRP gene encoding the C-re...

OBJECTIVE The potential role of VDR gene variations in modulating periodontal susceptibility have been a subject of scientific investigations. The aim of this paper is to perform a literature review of the potential correlation between Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms and periodontal disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS A PubMed literature search was made using "vitamin d receptor polymo...
